How to Set Up Overtime Rules

Setting up overtime rules in MakeShift allows you to automate and streamline overtime calculations for your team. By configuring overtime rules and overtime rates, you can ensure accurate payroll management and compliance with labor regulations.

Click on the Locations tab from the top navigation bar.

Click on the location you would like to configure overtime rules for.

Click on the Overtime Rules tab.

To add your new overtime rule, click on the green Add Overtime Rule button.

Next you may enter in the Name and the Employment Type for your new overtime rule. In addition, you may want to create your overtime rule based on Positions and or Employment Types

At a maximum you can create 2 daily rules, 1 weekly rule, 1 biweekly rule, or 1 average weekly hours biweekly rule. It is important to note that you can create as many daily or weekly rules as long as the position and or employment type are unique for any additional rules.

Next, you can select the duration of your overtime rule. For example you may state that If an employee works more than X hours (daily, weekly, biweekly or average weekly hours biweekly) they are paid X times their wage

It may also be important to establish the Pay Code Eligibility for specific rules that are eligible to earn overtime in addition to the pay code earning. These overtime rules may or may not be eligible to earn overtime in addition to the pay code earning. By checking or unchecking the box, you may indicate which overtime rules should earn overtime in addition to the pay code earning and which rules should not.

Once you have inputted all of the required settings for your new shift premium rule, select the Save button to save the information within your settings.
