How to Configure Your Break Settings
Click on the Locations tab from the top navigation bar.
Click on the location you would like to configure break settings for.
Next, select the Breaks tab.
Click on the green Add Break Rule button.
There are some additional pieces of information you may choose to include when creating your new break rule such as: adding a Break Code, creating a break rule based on Position(s), and or creating your rule based off of the Employment Type. These three fields are all optional which allows you the flexibility to create break rules based on company needs and labour agreements.
If you choose to input a Break Code for your new break rule, this code will map back to SAP for payroll purposes.
You may choose to create your new break rule based on one or more Position(s) within your account.
You may also choose to create your new break rule based on one or more Employment Type(s).
Next, you may choose to set up your break rules to be Unpaid Breaks or Paid Breaks.
If you select Unpaid Breaks, you can choose one of three radio button options:
- Automatically deduct the break time(s) from the shift time
- Automatically deduct X hour(s) once an employee works more than X hour(s)
- Automatically deduct an additional X hour(s) once an employee works equal to or more than X hour(s)
- Require employees to clock in and out for breaks
If you choose to Automatically deduct the break time(s) from the shift time, the break added to shift or shift template will automatically be deducted from the employee’s total time.
If you choose to Automatically deduct X hour(s) once an employee works more than X hour(s), MakeShift will deduct the total hours you set based on the rule from the employee’s total time. If the employee does not work the minimum number of hours indicated within your rule, then no deduction will be applied.
You may also opt to select Automatically deduct an additional X hour(s) once an employee works equal to or more than X hour(s) option which is optional. For example, you may want the system to deduct an additional .5 hours if the employee has worked equal to or more than 10 hours. This will be in addition to the previous rule, Automatically deduct X hour(s) once an employee works more than X hour(s).
If you choose the Paid Breaks option, employees will be required to clock in and out for breaks.
Select the green Save button once you have finished creating your break rule.
